The books owned by Angelo Zambardo, religious man and minor poet (16th-17th centuries)
Abstract
This article focuses on the figure and works of Angelo Zambardo (16th- 17th century), a friar of the Congregation of the Hermits of Blessed Peter of Pisa and a minor poet, recorded in poetry anthologies and bibliographies either as being from Ferrara or Padua, in fact confounding his identity as two individuals with the same name. In addition to the few documents available, his biography can be enlightened through his book inventory, now collected in the manuscript Vat. Lat. 11292, drawn up by himself and sent to comply with the request of the Congregation of the Index of Forbidden Books as he was based in the convent of S. Maria della Rosa in Ferrara (1600). This source makes possible to explore the workshop of a minor poet of the sixteenth century and to reconsider his literary production – comprising religious, encomiastic and satirical rhymes, amongst which the previously unknown Betulia liberata. Iudith, printed in Padua in 1590.
