The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a framework for improving and optimizing organizational processes. DevOps is a revolutionary method that bridges the gap between software development and IT operations by encouraging cooperation and continuous improvement. The combination of CMMI with DevOps is a potential technique for improving software development processes. This systematic mapping review looks at the existing literature on the integration of CMMI and DevOps, identifying how they have been combined, the common aspects between them, the possibility and feasibility of their integration, and whether this integration leads to an improvement in the software development process. A thorough search of numerous databases was done, followed by the application of strict inclusion and exclusion criteria to select relevant studies. A final pool was obtained containing 24 relevant papers. The findings show the benefits of combining CMMI and DevOps to reach a higher level of process improvement, in software development. However, a study about the integration between CMMI and DevOps was not found. Several frameworks have been developed to enhance the combination between them; most of them are models for measuring DevOps maturity based on CMMI. This review emphasizes the need for additional research to develop a model for integrating CMMI with DevOps, which will be the next step in the context of an ongoing study. By giving a comprehensive review of the present state of research, this study adds to a better understanding of how CMMI and DevOps can be effectively coupled to promote software industry advancements.
