«Di tromba marina» («Decameron» IX 5.35)

Abstract

L’esegesi dell’espressione «(giovani) di tromba marina» (Decameron IX 5.35), come riconosce Vittore Branca, «non è del tutto sicura». L’autore, dopo aver discusso le chiose correnti, riprende un’interpretazione minoritaria, quella di tromba marina come strumento musicale (Quarta Crusca e Grande Dizionario della Lingua Italiana), ma l’inquadra in una maniera del tutto nuova, mettendo a confronto, come il testo sembra richiedere, quello strumento con la ribeca di Calandrino. The exegesis of the expression «(giovani) di tromba marina», «(youth) of marine trumpet» (Decameron IX 5.35), as Vittore Branca acknowledged, «is not entirely sure». The author, after discussing the current glosses, takes up a minority interpretation, that of the «tromba marina» as a musical instrument (4th edition of the Crusca, Grande Dizionario della Lingua Italiana), but he frames the explanation in a quite new way, comparing, as the text seems to require, that instrument with Calandrino’s rebec.
