Ética profissional em Ciência da Informação: uma análise de códigos de ética de arquivistas e bibliotecários
Abstract
The ethics, when related to professional performance, aims to reflect on the values that guide the behavior of a certain category, finding materiality in documents such as codes of ethics or deontology, an aspect that affects information professionals, namely archivists and librarians, because they are professions that have regulated exercise in many countries, such as Brazil. In this sense, we sought to analyze and compare the documents at national and international level of these professionals, in aspects related to their producer, year of creation, formal denomination and types of sanctions foreseen. 50 documents were recovered, in English, Italian, French, Portuguese and Spanish, 17 of which are for archivists, 30 for librarians and 3 for both. Most of the codes come from professional councils or associations, created over the past four decades with names that vary between code of ethics, code of deontology, code of conduct, code of ethics and conduct, code of professional practice and statement on professional ethics. The sanctions were found in 13 documents, which mischaracterizes the other 37 codes as a regulatory document. The results lead to conclude the need for more in-depth studies on ethics and deontology in these two professional fields when elaborating codes of this nature, in order to guarantee the necessary cohesion and specificity for professional practice.
