On the basis of the theoretical and methodological postulates of cultural history, narrative, and micro-history, as well as of the emerging field of urban cultural history, the article addresses the representation of the city and of urbanization in Venezuelan literature. As part of a larger-scale project on the 20th century, the article focuses on the two decades following the overthrow of the Pérez Jiménez, dictatorship in 1958, which were characterized by democratic reconstruction and intense urban growth. The primary sources used are essays and novels.
