Praia, schizofrenic city. Etnografia urbana nella capitale di Capo Verde.

Abstract

Praia, capital of Cape Verde, can be defined as a schizophrenic city, splitted by deep urban, socio-economic and cultural contrasts into central suburbs and popular bairros. The city is object of ambivalent representations: centre of the national development and context of urban violence. The city fracture is reflected in dwellers’ identity and belonging construction, deeply different from each to other relying on territorial belonging.
