Deindustrialization as a global process has manifested itself since the middle of the last century with multiple causes, among which globalization has played a leading role. The effect of this process was the emergence of abandoned urban areas because they could no longer fulfill their original function. Awareness of the potential of reuse of these spaces through their functional reconversion was achieved with the establishment of the term industrial heritage and its recognition as part of the world's historical heritage. The present research sought to identify chronologically the examples of good practice worldwide in the functional revaluation of urban railway spaces both to highlight the multiple possibilities of approaching the phenomenon and to indicate the way forward in developing strategies to revalue the Romanian railway heritage.
