The Royal Seal was understood, since its creation in the Middle Ages, not only as the main validation sign of the regal chancery, but also as a symbol and incarnation of the King himself, including his supreme will. The distance of the new conquered lands and the permanent absence of the monarch, strengthened the representative value of this royal seal, becoming an important matter of persuasion of the regal power. In this paper, we will analyze the ritual involving the reception of the seal in the Indies, taking as an example the one stated in 1544, in the city of Lima, the one in which its Audience was established.
