Scientific obsession of historian Vasyl Danylevych (1872-1936). To 150th anniversary of his birth

The goal of the research: in line with the Ukrainian historiographical tradition to restore the name of historian, archaeologist, numismatist, museologist Vasyl Danylevych, whose 150th birthday is celebrated in 2022. He is positioned with the Kyiv Historical School of Volodymyr Antonovych. In this regard, the task is to recreate the life, scientific and pedagogical path of the Ukrainian scientist, who lived and worked in a difficult period of national history, which forced to develop his own ideological vector in relation to contemporary social events. Methodology. Theresearch is based on general philosophical methodological principles and methods: objectivity in the selection, analysis and interpretation of facts, a comprehensive approach to the problem, including biographical data, taking into account the socio-political atmosphere and the general state of science, including methodology of history, the logic of the presentation of the material. Scientific novelty. On the basis of historiographical research, published works and manuscripts of V. Danylevych, storedin the Institute of Manuscript of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, his devotion to the scientific principles of Kyiv historical school of Antonovych,main scientific results, methods of teaching history, historical geography and archeology, archaeological research, participation in scientific organizational processes of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences are shown. Conclusions. The formation of the future scientist took place at the Kyiv University of St. Volodymyr under the guidance of Professor Volodymyr Antonovych, who directed the pupils to study the regional history and archeology of Ukraine. After graduating, life’s vicissitudes, the search for a suitable job hampered the preparation and obtain of master’s degree. Revolutionary events of the early 20th century in Russia contributed to the formation of social-democratic views of V. Danylevych. After the establishment of Sovietpower in Ukraine, he worked fruitfully in the development of science and educationin the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
