The reality of using automated cataloging in Arab libraries: a field study on the library of the University of Science and Technology

Abstract

The great development in the number and quality of automated systems in libraries and information centers of all kinds shows its importance in libraries, and its history dates back to 1935 AD, which is the year that witnessed the introduction of the first data processing machine to libraries. In 1935, the first system was implemented in a Texas library, and in 1940 automated lending systems were monitored in libraries. The universities of Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. In 1946, a study of an automatic retrieval system in the US Patent Office, and in 1951, the first index printed in book form by computer in the King Library. In 1975, a project was used for control, and in 1961, an automated search project was used in indexes. In the medical library in America, in 1964 AD, indexes in the form of a book were used in the Florida library, and in 1966 AD the first integrated automated system appeared in libraries.
