This short text – a reply to Raffaele Pinto's paper - proposes to reflection on the universality of the concept of desire in relation to literature, starting with the Aristotelian theme of 'orexis' – understood as a link between body and soul – to arrive to the Freudian concepts of Eros and Thanatos. This doubleness, considered constituting human desire, only in literary works can find a possible reconciliation.
