Use of the internet and its influence in family communication

Abstract

this paper shows the result of a research about the internet influence on communication inside family groups. In order to develop this research, it was necessary to work with two hundred families from the municipality of Rionegro, Antioquia. A survey was administered to the families in order to find out the cause of the communication issue. Taking this survey into consideration, it would be possible to design strategies that guide families to reflect on the time and space they spend interacting and improving their communication in their homes. The findings allowed seeing the significant influence of Internet on the families, as well as, determining the prominent obstacles or challenges that emerge when people want to create links or make connections through the use of the Internet. Families and schools need to become aware of how they are communicating, analyze the issues that are blocking an effective interaction, and face the challenges to adopt new technologies without sacrificing the relationship and adequate communication in homes and schools.
