This article deals with the implementation of the military service of transgender persons. The author analyses the experience of transgender military service opportunities in the United States during the presidency of D. Trump, where the president’s drastic decision to ban transgender people from military service and the position of the courts in the ensuing disputes is analyzed. In Lithuania, transgender people should not be exempted from compulsory military service under anti-discrimination legislation, but implementing this right and obligation may pose some problems when the gender legally documented in a person’s identity documents differs from that with which they live. They may be found unsuitable based on personality and behavioral disorders, according to the conclusion of a military medical examination.
