Effectiveness of psychological Rehabilitation Based on Training of Positive Thinking Skills on Self-Care, Happiness and Self-efficacy in Elderly People with Type 2 Diabetes
Abstract
The phenomenon of aging is the result of the natural course of time that results in physiological, psychological and social changes. Maintaining the ability and vitality of the elderly, despite the inevitable changes in their condition, can be effective in promoting communities; Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of psychological rehabilitation based on the training of positive thinking skills on self-care, happiness and self-efficacy in elderly People with type 2 diabetes. The research method was semi-pilot with a pretest-posttest and control group with random assignment of subjects. The statistical population included all patients referring to the Iranian Diabetes Association who had type 2 diabetes. 30 elderly people with type 2 diabetes and residing in Tehran were selected as an available sample and were randomly divided into experimental (n = 15) and control (n=15) groups. The experimental group received 8 sessions for psychological Rehabilitation Based on Positive Thinking Skills Training but the control group did not receive any training. The self-efficacy, happiness and self-care questionnaire were used to evaluate the participants before and after the intervention. The results of covariance analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in self-care, happiness, and self-efficacy; Therefore, based on the findings, the effectiveness of psychological rehabilitation based on positive thinking training on self-caring, happiness and self-efficacy in the elderly in the experimental group was confirmed; Therefore, it is recommended that special attention be paid to the training of positive thinking skills in the elderly.
