Side Population Cells and Lung Cancer Stem Cells
Abstract
Side population (SP) cells are a rare subset of cells, which can be isolated by dual-wavelength flow cytometry because of their capacity to efflux Hoechst 33342, found in various tissues and cell lines that are highly enriched for stem cell activity. As recent studies have identified stem-cell-like SP cells in many lung cancer tissues and cell lines, this review is intended to find out the relationship between lung cancer SP cells and lung cancer stem cells.
