This paper investigates the social impacts of the magnitude-6.2 earthquake near the Taiwan strait in 2018. The project team interviewed ordinary residents living in the Dongshan County of Fujian Province in south China on a range of topics,including people’s feelings of earthquake,emergency response and escape from danger,social psychology,and popularization of disaster mitigation and earthquake early warning. The purpose of this paper is to understand how the Dongshan residents avoid danger at the time of emergency and how well anti-seismic and disaster-mitigating knowledge is popularized among them,so as to provide references for conducting targeted publicity in that aspect in the future and enable the public to better fend off the damages of earthquake.
