Comparing the Efficiency of a Chosen Wastewater Treatment Plant with the Recipient
Abstract
This paper is focused on comparing total efficiency of a waste water treatment process for chosen small waste-water treatment plant (WWTP) with the recipient. Eight waste water samples were taken during one year in two sampling profiles of WWTP and in one sampling profile in recipient which was located about 500 m from the discharge of treated waste water from WWTP. Eight following water quality indicators were chosen and analyzed: biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended solids, pH, ammonia nitrogen (N-NH4), nitrite nitrogen (N-NO2), nitrate nitrogen (N-NO3), inorganic nitrogen (Ninorg) and total phosphorus (Ptotal). Treatment efficiency was calculated for all laboratory analyzed indicators and average values are presented. Analyzed average values of parameters BOD, COD, suspended solids, pH, N-NH4, N-NO2, N-NO3, Ptotal and pH in recipient were compared with the surface waters pollution standard by Government Regulation No. 61/2003 Coll. The waste-water treatment plant efficiency also depends on the treated waste water volume. The volume of waste water flowing to the waste-water treatment plant was measured during each sampling. This volume was compared with the waste water permitted quantity and with the municipality report for operates the sewerage and waste-water treatment plants.
