The Effect of Environmental Education on Environmental Awareness in Higher Education(Yükseköğretimde Çevre Eğitiminin Çevre Bilincine Etkisi)

Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the effect of environmental education, received during the education process of the fourth-year students studying in the undergraduate program of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bartin University, on the level of knowledge and awareness of environmental problems and environmental sensitivity. Based on the data obtained as a result of the survey conducted with 120 students enrolled in the program, it was determined that the awareness of the students towards the environment increased during the education process they received. It has been concluded that students who grow up in a family with a high education level have higher environmental awareness individually. Therefore, as it is clear that the threats, dangers and concerns about the environment will increase in the coming periods, it becomes clear how important it is to inform and raise awareness of the students, who will be the parents of tomorrow, about the environment, environmental problems and environmental education in order to increase the level of knowledge and awareness.
