In this study the Hess-Brezowsky's and Péczely's macrosynoptic categorizations are used for the description of the regional scale surface level ozone concentration over Hungary. The average daily mean and daily maximum ozone concentrations are given for each Hess-Brezowsky's and Péczely's categories. Categories characterized by the highest (>100 ppb) and lowest (<40 ppb) daily maximum ozone concentrations, as well as those forming episodes of elevated ozone concentration are identified. It is realized that the Péczely's categorization is more adequate for the characterization of the circulation pattern in the Carpathian Basin than the Hess-Brezowsky's one.
