Solution to enhance the effectiveness of Macrobrachium rosenbergii production in Dong Thap province

Abstract

The research seeks to elaborate on the effectiveness of Macrobrachium rosenbergiiproductionin Dong Thap province. The survey results from 283 samples (whole blood according to the actual situation of the survey) show that there are nine independent variables affecting the dependent variable production efficiency (profitability), which are (1) framing area, (2) yield amounts, (3) price, (4) pond treatment costs, (5) breed costs, (6) food costs, (7) disease prevention costs, (8) labor and other expenses. The research findings suggest some policies: (a) shrimp farming area in order to increase the efficiency of scale economy, (b) productivity (yield at harvest) needs to be improved, (c) a stable and profitable source of shrimp input should be found, (d) pond treatment costs should be increased before stocking, (e) breed costs, food costs, disease prevention costs, labor and electricity, water expenses should be reduced
