This work sought to reflect on the presence of the Municipality of Belo Horizonte, Brasil, in the International Association of Educating Cities. Therefore, a bibliographic review was made on the subject in question and a documentary analysis in order to identify and analyze actions by the government and civil society in promoting the insertion of children in public spaces in the city. It was found that the actions carried out by the Municipality, especially the Integrated School Program, brought advances, but it has not yet guaranteed an effective appropriation of public spaces in the promotion of children’s citizenship. Thus, we concluded that Belo Horizonte is in the process of being an educational city, but it is necessary to go far beyond what is set in the direction of a commitment to public ethics.
