Nasal administration of mesenchymal stem cells prevents accelerated age-related tauopathy after chemotherapy in mice
Abstract
Highlights • Cisplatin accelerates formation of tau deposits in entorhinal cortex and hippocampus of older female and male mice. • Nasal administration of MSC after cisplatin prevents formation of tau deposits in the brain. • Tau deposits are associated with astrocyte activation but not with activation of microglia. • Most of the tau deposits in cisplatin-treated mice develop in neurons. • Nasal administration of MSC reverses cognitive deficits in older mice treated with cisplatin.
