This article aims to explore the social dimensions of the practices that are related to food, in a number of feminocentric prose works from the Greek, Serbian and Romanian cultures at the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth century. It conceives of food as a marker of the transformations that take place at the level of the economic and social structures, as well as of the social position of women, within the societies under discussion.
