Purpose. Establish theoretical and methodological problems of studying the categorical pair “trust-distrust” and clarify the correlation of these phenomen’s. Methodology. For basis the transdisciplinary approach related to principle of syncretism in the comprehension of results of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research practices at metatheoreticallevel is taken. Methodological options and principles are used structural-functional and phenomenological approaches; conceptual ideas about a sociocultural crisis in Russian society; procedures of categorizing and conceptualization, and also principles of discourse analysis. Results. It was revealed that the notions of trust and mistrust in disciplinary research practices are fragmentary, due to the difference of paradigmatic approaches and author’s methodological preferences. Based on the principle of syncretism in the study of trust and mistrust, it is justified that trust and mistrust act as a holistic phenomenon of social practices determined by the transformational changes of any society. Therefore, trust and mistrust should be the subject of social-philosophical understanding, suggesting their syncretic treatment as an integral social reality. Practical implications. The results can be used to develop normative strategies for the functioning and transformational changes in society, are taken into account in solving a certain range of social problems when developing models of social management and drawing up social programs that take into account the social and regulatory significance and social effect of trust.
