The objective of this experience report was to share the difficulties and challenges faced in research development process on women who put children up for adoption. It was described and discussed the scientific process of three studies dealing with the complex issue of giving up a child, performed in public hospitals, in a Court of Childhood and Youth, Child Protection Council and the Family Health Strategies. Deadlocks and problems experienced with the health, protection and assistance institutions while conducting the research show that stigmas are strongly rooted in the professional performance. These negative views not only prevent the rights of women who deliver the child and infants, as well as demonstrate that practices are more in tune with these prejudices than with the current legislation. Arguments that confirm the importance of further study on this subject are considered, discussed and analyzed theoretically.
