Research Progress of Air Cathode in Microbial Fuel Cell System
Abstract
Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a new type of electricity-generating device that uses biomass-producing microorganisms to convert biomass energy into electrical energy through bioelectrochemical reactions, while degrading organic matter in sewage. Although MFC has good dual effects in solving energy and environmental problems, the high cost and low output power make it difficult to quantify, which is a major obstacle to its large-scale development. In the MFC system, the cathode electrode is one of the key factors influencing these problems. There are three kinds of cathode materials:electrolyte cathode, bio-cathode and air cathode. This paper mainly summarized the current research progress on air cathode diffusion layer and catalytic layer at home and abroad, the main problems that its development are currently facing and the future development direction.
