Territorial ecology offers the opportunity to deepen of the knowledge on the material and immaterial dimensions of a territory. Through an original approach of territorial metabolism applied to the agricultural system of Aussois (Savoy), we highlight interactions and feedbacks involved in the creation of territorial wealth at the interface of those two dimensions. We discuss how the notion of commons contributes to deepen the understanding of such processes. Finally we consider that the articulation between these two dimensions is challenged by “common acting” (i.e. the capability of actors in converting a material resource in immaterial wealth) and contributes to enhance “territorial capability”.
