This article evaluates comparatively the classification of municipalities of Amapá, based on the Human Development Index (IDH) and the Urban Welfare Index (IBEU). This is a descriptive research, based on secondary quantitative data, collected through bibliographic and documentary surveys. Despite the existence of a correlation between the indices, the classification of the municipalities in Amapá is not necessarily similar for the analyzed indices. The results show significant differences in the classification of human development and urban well-being. Thus, it is concluded that the urban space of Amapá needs instruments, tools and indicators that significantly improve the living conditions of local inhabitants, specifically the formulation and reformulation of urban and regional planning strategies.
