Abstract

The paper offers a survey of the honours granted to Macedonian king Antigonos III Doson both from Greek poleis and within the Macedonian kingdom. The work also focuses on the causes that led Aratus of Sicyon, Strategos of the Achaean league, to award godlike timai to the Sovereign, highlighting political purposes and hegemonic aims. Finally, the series of special honours will be examined and compared with those previously offered to Doson’s predecessors and ancestors, the Antigonids kings, trying to reconstruct a brief family history related to the expression of the cults of the Sovereigns.
