Acute postoperative pain is a global phenomenon. Until recently, recognition and treatment of acute postoperative pain has not received enough attention which has resulted in inadequate provision and delivery of pain relief. Identification of professionals with the specific interest in pain management is essential to provision of improved pain control. Teaching of assessment and management of postoperative pain control should be standardized and taught throughout curriculums in medical schools and nursing training. Education of the patients increases patients' safety, minimizes complications and contributes to improved postoperative pain control. This article addresses the most important aspects of postoperative pain management with consideration of high fidelity simulation training as an educational tool.
