Young Children’s Cross-Cultural Studies with Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns
Abstract
Using global literature and methods of art integration in elementary schools, this vignette discusses how teaching through global picturebooks is an important way to support students in embracing diversity through teaching them about the histories, values, beliefs, and perspectives from people of different cultural backgrounds. The book "Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns" was used to introduce students to Islamic culture and make connections with their own cultures; math, English, art, and social justice were used to help students critically engage with the book.
