Los componentes del discurso en la Suma collaciones o de ayuntamientos

Abstract

This paper aims to study the components of discourse in John of Wales’s Communiloquium and in its Spanish translation: Suma de collaciones o de ayuntamientos or Libro del governador (ms. 12181 BNE). This book to help preachers is characterized by the skillful interweaving of different fragments taken from Greco Roman sources: sentences, definitions, arguments, similitudines and exempla, the last of wich are the subject of a special analysis. The author doesn’t draw from his personal experience or oral tradition but mainly collects them from classical sources. This attachment to the written texts proves his desire to provide credible and reliable stories to be used by preachers.
