Educational intervention on alcoholism in adolescents

Introduction: in adolescence, one of the most worrying health risky behaviors is the use of toxic substances, specifically alcohol consumption. Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on alcoholic adolescent belonging to No. 4 Family Doctor's Office at Ernesto Guevara de la Serna University Polyclinic in Niquero municipality, Granma province during November 2017 to January 2018. Methods: a quasi-experimental study of educational intervention in adolescents belonging to No. 4 Family Doctor's Office at Ernesto Guevara de la Serna University Polyclinic in Niquero municipality, Granma province was carried out from November 2017 to January 2018. The target group was comprised of 78 adolescents. A survey was applied before and after the intervention. Results: the age group between 16 and 18 years old predominated (57,3 %), female gender (62,7 %). There was a significant prevalence of alcoholic beverages consumption (68,0 %). Before the intervention the level of general knowledge about alcoholism was low (62,7 %) and after the implementation of the intervention it was higher (84,0 %). Conclusions: alcohol consumption is common among adolescents; as a result educational interventions are needed to be designed for them to be aware of the harmfulness of these habits.
