Pif Gadget is a newspaper marked by communist ideology. Owned by groups attached to the French Communist Party, we find traces of this influence in comics, in gadgets or in the editorial. More surprisingly, this content is also sometimes more advanced, even at odds with party doctrine, and accompanies the evolution of the public on environmental issues. Without being a journal of political ecology, the magazine is sensitive to ecological subjects, in their entirety, with in particular certain partnerships (the WWF) and certain specific series, particularly committed to subjects such as the relationship with nature (Loup-Noir), the place of animals (Ayak), the protection of fauna and flora against industry (Les Compagnons d'Univerzoo) or the fight against the capitalist exploitation of species (Cogan), sometimes even to the point of contesting the place of nuclear power in certain pages, an energy that is nevertheless fully supported by the PCF. This article analyzes this corpus and tries to make it resonate with the sociopolitical context of France from the 1970s to the 1990s.
