Research progress on collagenous gastritis
Abstract
Collagenous gastritis (CG) is a rare disease characterized by a zone of collagen deposits of > 10 μm in thickness under the gastric mucosal epithelium with inflammatory cell infiltration in the lamina propria. The pathogenesis of CG is still unclear, which may be related to many factors, such as autoimmunity, inflammation and drugs, etc. Clinical manifestations of CG are complex and diverse with a chronic recurrence and prolonged process, which can be divided into child- and adult-onset groups of clinical symptoms. At present, there is no standard treatment for CG. The following therapeutic regimens have been employed including hypoallergenic diet, inhibition of gastric juice secretion, gastrointestinal mucosal protective agent, oral iron agent,glucocorticoid,5-aminosalicylicacid and immunosuppressive agents. However, clinical efficacy and follow-up outcomes are not completely consistent. In this article, research progresses on CG at home and abroad were reviewed.
