Obříství, a Late Bronze Age Port of Trade in Central Bohemia
Abstract
The paper discusses the Late Bronze Age in the site of Obříství, located in a strategic area defined by the confluence of Bohemia’s two major rivers – the Elbe and the Vltava. Based on the extensive rescue excavati‑ ons which have been recently conducted; on the analysis of the Knovíz culture settlement development in the studied microregion; and on specific finds including fragments of raw amber, this site is considered as a probable major centre of trade and of long distance contacts during the Late Bronze Age.
