This paper first proposes an analysis of the patterns of spatial distribution of the main minority groups in China, and their evolution in order to highlight the diversity of situations and levels of development. The second part of the paper examines major problems of ethnic minorities, and more generally their regional setting since the launch of economic reforms : inequalities in revenues, access to education and health care are at the heart of the exclusion processes. At the end of this reflection, it will be necessary to emphasize the importance for the Chinese government to establish policies of multiculturalism and promote a harmonious integration of the 55 minority groups within the Chinese society.
