Effectiveness of self-care training on physical and mental health of patients with diabetic type 2
Abstract
Background: Self-care, play an important role in the care of chronic diseases. Adherences to self- care activities have an effect on the physical and psychological care of patients with diabetes. This study aimed to determine Effectiveness of self-care training on physical and mental health of diabetic patients was conducted. Method: Before and after quasi-experimental study was performed on patients with diabetes were referred to the Diabetes Association Urmia Samples were selected by convenience and then randomly assigned to intervention (40) and control (40) groups. Collect data were used by the general quality of life questionnaire (SF 36) and demographic, before and after the intervention in both groups. The intervention groups received 8 sessions of training in self-care (PowerPoint, pamphlets, and booklets). Re-assessed was done three months after the intervention. And results were analyzed by SPSS software version 16, t-test and chi-square. Results: total mean of quality of life before intervention, was (59/34±20/82) in Intervention group and (57/66±20/87) in control group (P=0/31). After intervention, total mean of quality of life was (73/18±18/18) in Intervention group and (60/05±20/72) in control group (P=0/001). Conclusion: Diabetes self-care training to increase individual awareness about diabetes issues, improve physical and mental health as well as increase the quality and length of life of patients.
