Abstract

This article explores the relationship between art and urban transformations beyond the gentrification approach. The dramatic shifts in the South Shoreditch’s economic and urban fortunes give us a critical exploration of how artists are incorporated into the cultural economy and the regeneration process of postindustrial spaces. Grasping the recent evolutions of this artistic quarter into a recreative area gives an insight of how artists can become city creators.
