In this work, hybrid materials were prepared from natural clay (ARC) and algae Codium fragile (COD), using two different heating methods, one conventional (ARCCOD E) and the other with microwaves (ARCCOD MO). The characterization of the materials obtained was carried out by XRD and FT-IR. The results show appreciable differences of the hybrids in relation to the starting materials, indicating in both cases a possible intercalation of water and COD biomass in the ARC structure, which is more evident in ARCCOD E. The microwave effect would produce a higher degree of delamination in ARCCOD MO, while in ARCCOD E, the original ARC structure would seem to be more preserved. Preliminary tests show oil sorption capacities of the hybrids similar to the starting materials.
