Ict: a look at the habits of adolescents who live with their grandparents
Abstract
With the work presented, we intend to know the use of new technologies in a sample of adolescents schooled in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria who live with their grandparents. We have shown, on the one hand, that the situation of the grandparents with respect to the relation and the upbringing of their grandchildren has changed in the last years. On the other hand, we know very well the changes that the adolescent presents in the vital stage in which he is immersed and as his life is influenced by the TICs. The world of the adolescent differs much from that which has lived the grandfather throughout his life. The most important change and the most intergenerational shock is the use of new technologies. We present data of a sample is composed of 2371 students from 1º of the ESO to 1º of Bachillerato with a distribution of 1203 men and 1168 women. Cluster sampling was stratified so that it could be considered representative of the Autonomous Community. Once the statistical analysis was performed on the 65 variables interrelated with the main variable: "Live with grandparents", significant differences were found in thirteen variables. These are all related to: Use video games / video game consoles, Video game reviews, Tablet / IPAD rating, Number of PCs at home, Home internet connection, Different aspects related to social networks, Relationships with people using the network, Internet connection time, Sleep hours to be connected, Uses of the mobile. Based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that, although the above differences do not allow us to establish a clear relationship, we can affirm that there is a greater use of new technologies in adolescents living with their grandparents.
