Our democracies are alive but ailing. Following on from grassroots media movements like Nuits Debout and Gilets jaunes are other, less conspicuous civil society initiatives that are experimenting with a new type of democracy. More and more people are joining forces to find concrete solutions to the problems facing our broken society. The term used to refer to these civil society groups is “citizen initiatives.” There are two parts to this article. The first presents the theoretical framework for the analysis. The second suggests ways to eliminate the partial invisibility that afflicts citizen initiatives today.
