Experience of puerperes on assistance provided by the breastfeeding support group

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the experience of postpartum women about the assistance provided by the Breastfeeding Support Group. Methodology: Field research, carried out with four postpartum women admitted to public health services located in the northern region of Itapicurú. Results: The analysis of the participants’ statements allowed the grouping of contents with similar meanings into three categories: the lack of commitment of institutions and professionals to breastfeeding; the experience of nursing mothers about the consultancy provided by GAAM; the development of the bond: a factor of recognition, credibility and encouragement. Final considerations: At the end of this study, it was possible to analyze that the assistance provided by the Group was of great relevance for overcoming the weaknesses of these women and, consequently, for maintaining breastfeeding.
