The aim of this study was to analyze the performance of sorghum genotypes on the Brazilian agreste,Brazil, and determine the selection criteria. Twenty-five genotypes were analyzed using a randomized blocks designwith four replications. Plant height, panicle length, leaf dry biomass, stem dry biomass, panicle dry biomass and totaldry biomass were analyzed. The results showed an average yield of 12.305 t ha-1, indicating that the Brazilian agrestepresents favorable conditions for crop development. Among the genotypes, four showed yield above 14 t ha-1 andproduction of panicle dry biomass higher than 50% of total dry biomass, suggesting suitability for silage, while two genotypesshowed production exceeding 14 t ha-1 but with less than 50% distributed in the panicle component, indicatingsuitability for forage. As conclusion, the percentage of panicle biomass and total biomass must be analyzed together forthe selection of sorghum genotypes presenting different characteristics.
