Characterization of the movement of correspondents of the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba.
Abstract
Introduction: communication is one of the fundamental axes of work of the University Student Federation. The Correspondent Movement puts into effect the organization’s communication strategy. Objective: to characterize the movement of correspondents of the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba. Method: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was 95 correspondents from the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba, the sample was constituted by the total population, no sample design was required. The main variables studied were: Faculty/Subsidiary of origin, sex, career, academic year, years of seniority in the movement, social networks used and number of correspondents who have received the Patria Award. Absolute and relative percentage frequencies were used. Results: 44.21% of the correspondents (n=42) came from the Palma Soriano Subsidiary. The Medicine career predominated (46; 48.42%). 42.1% (n=40) of the correspondents had only 1 year of seniority in the movement. The most used social network was WhatsApp (95; 100%). Only 8 have received the Patria Award for 8.42%. Conclusions: the movement of correspondents of the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba has a heterogeneous composition of students from different careers and academic years. It is constantly expanding.
