Konut Sakinlerinin Fiziksel ve Toplumsal Çevre Algılamaları: Kahramanmaraş Örneği(Resıdents Physıcal And Socıal Perceptıons Of The Envıronment In Kahramanmaraş)

Abstract

The process of the modernization and urbanization has led cities to transform into the center of attraction in many respects. Within this context, the physical and social perception of the residents living within a very complex urban environment gains significance. This study analyzes the new Kahramanmaraş peripheral settlements areas aimed at channeling the city growth to specific directions in the context of the urban and housing policies. Based on the socio-economic criteria, first the socio-economic status of the residential areas are identified and then their effects on the physical and social perceptions of the residents are analyzed. Our hypothesis was that “ there was a correlation between SES (socio-economic status) and the physical and social perceptions of the residents.” The findings showed that in general our hypothesis was consistent with the results, but a minor exception: there was a change in the negative direction in the physical and social perception of the residents as SES declined.
