Abstract

EMOTIONS IN THE REALM OF RATIONALITY: THE ROLE OF EMOTIONS IN KRAKÓW’S UNIVERSITIES’ ACTIVITIES The recent research on organizations and management proved that despite the claims of rationality, emotions play an important role in decisionmaking and are set the foundations for organizational culture. The present chapter is the result of research aiming at analyzing organizational culture of selected universities located in Krakow as perceived by the deans. Thanks to the place of Krakow on academic map of Poland, the Authors were able to investigate various types of universities: traditional academic university, technical, and artistic. The research proves that, despite the claims of rational objectivity, emotions are equally important in organizational culture of the universities in question, thus any dean must take the emotions into consideration while managing his/her faculty, especially during the times of rapid changes.
