Notes on the Brazilian forests during the first Republic: Forestry, Conservation of Nature and Agriculture
Abstract
This article aims to discuss the arguments for forestry and conservation of Brazilian forests - culminating in organizing of the Forest Service during the First Republic. This article also aims to analyze the concerns about climate change. The following analysis unfolds the thinking of scholars, writers, farmers and statesmen based on documentation involving the Ministry of Agriculture, chronicles, scientific and agricultural journals. This analysis seeks to understand how these actors thought the protection of nature. Finally, this article emphasizes a theoretical perspective based on the Environmental History, tuning work with economic, political and cultural issues.
