Territorial Reform, Institutional Change and Economic Development. The Regions’ Evolution and their Perspective along the Romanian History
Abstract
The present study had as starting point the fact that regionalism has quite a strong tradition inRomania. Ever since the formation of the modern Romanian state the state divisions occurred as solidadministrative units, each of them having its own peculiarities. Regardless of the political regimes that havetaken turns in power, it can easily be observed that one of the main objectives was the development of betterlinks between the different regions of the country. Recently, after having set clear goals to join the EuropeanUnion structures, Romania has been compelled to improve social and economic conditions. This processbegan on the background of historical inter-regional disparities, mostly due to external factors. The presentpaper analyzes, from a historical perspective, how the implementation of regional development policies couldbe applied and work, depending on the social status of people, on traditions, on ways to develop interpersonalrelationships and relationships with the authorities.
