The authors present this dossier for the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of Psicologi per i Popoli, which took place in Bolzano on 22 November 1999. This is the first Italian association of emergency psychologists committed to voluntary professional work, and in 2003 it gave birth to Psicologi per i Popoli – Federazione, an organization that is registered in the central list of the Civil Protection with the function of “mobile column” for psychological and psychosocial assistance to the population affected by disasters. The aim of this paper is to offer a synoptic and synthetic representation of the norms, psychological models and experiences that have positively guided the Federation’s emergency psychologists over the last twenty years and that are still considered valid and of proven effectiveness.
